- Sleep in a bed. This seems simple, but many people sleep in chairs or on the couch. Your mattress is the best place to get the most rest. If possible, sleep on a firm mattress. A firm mattress provides better support for your back than a soft, cushioned one.
- Keep your head, neck, spine and hips as in line. It might help to place a pillow between your knees to keep your hips aligned. Also, try to sleep on your side without curving your back. If you sleep on your back, place one pillow underneath your knees to keep them slightly bent and another pillow at the base of you back, maintaining the natural curve of your spine.
- Rotate your mattress. Your mattress gets uneven, which is why it is best to periodically rotate it to ensure proper balance and distribution. Sleeping on an uneven mattress may cause pain because it can create pressure points which can be troublesome.
- Invest in a contoured pillow. Finding pillows that match the contours of your spine and neck can help you not only sleep better, but also help to reduce back pain as well.
- Don’t sleep on your stomach. Sleeping on your stomach increases the likelihood of back pain due to the stress that it causes on the lower spine.
Use a Back Brace to Maintain Posture
